Back in the Swing May 17, 2006
It has been a crazy few weeks and I know I have neglected the blog. I always hate to read posts like this one on other people’s blogs but i feel i must share with you what I have been up to. Here is the complete run down:
- Business at the Block has been great! I’ve been meeting with some great new potential clients which is always a good thing. We’re also currently working on a website redesign for a cable network. The deadline on it is tight and can be stressful, the end of June, but everyone seems to be having fun with it and that is what really matters.
- One of our clients at the Block has become a close friend. I am going to be helping them with some personal projects and they are going to be providing me with some entrepreneurial advice. They are really a great bunch of people - more to come in future posts.
- I’ve been discussing a personal new business venture with a very close friend and it looks like we’re going to go ahead and do it (in our spare time of course). I’ll fill you in on it as soon as I can. At the very least, we’re hoping to get funding this summer and launch in the summer of 2007.
- I’ve been confirmed as a speaker for Flash Forward Conference in Austin later this year. Its an extreme honor and I can’t say how excited I am that Lynda.com and Flash Forward are allowing me to bring the topic of business to the forefront in the flash community. More to come in future posts on my presentation and the “special cd” I’ll be giving all attendees of my presentation. Its guaranteed to be an eye opening experience for everyone, me as well.
- I spent the latter half of last week in Chicago with my wife. For those who don’t know, she is the US Workshop Coordinator for Carson Workshops so we were out there for a workshop she did with CSS guru Dave Shea. We had a great time, met some terrific people, Dave did an absolute amazing job presenting, and I even met a fan! We also had a great time catching up with some friends so it was a terrific time! We stayed at a great new hotel that just opened and we had our second mixer (the first didn’t turn out too well) at this great club. By the way, there are two great workshops coming up for Ruby on Rails if you’re interested. One in NYC on May 25th and one in San Francisco on June 8th. Feel free to pass on the word to any developer’s you know!
- I broke down and got some new specs this past weekend. I have always wanted to get in touch with the übergeek inside of me so I decided why the hell not and went ahead with it. These are some crazy Dolce & Gabana specs that I picked up from Lenscrafters, a pretty fine place if you ask me. I had never been to Lenscrafters so I was pleasantly surprised at their great selection of frames and the friendliness they had. Which lets face it, in NY it can be pretty hard to find truly friendly people who like what they do.
- I am also awaiting the anticipated announcement of two new classes I will be teaching for the Continuing Ed department at SVA. I’ll be sure to announce them on hear once I get the “all clear” sign.
- I also have a wedding coming up next weekend for one of my best friends. Of course I kept neglecting to go get measured for my tux so when I finally went it was such a relief. But the funny thing was that the person who measured me failed to have me try on a coat, so they didn’t have my coat size! So I had to go back, again. Needless to say I hate getting measured - it is always a major task.
- Lastly, my baby is getting his first tooth and boy is he pissed. He’s doing alright compared to the stories I’ve been hearing of other people’s kids, but still I feel so bad for him.
So there’s the running list of what I’ve been up to. Feel free to let me know what has been going down with you!
