AIGA’s Gain Relaunches February 27, 2006

Gain: AIGA Journal of Business and Design has relaunched and is filled with terrific articles and an easier layout than its flash predecessor. “The Gain journal is dedicated to stimulating thinking at the intersection of design and business. Through rigorous case studies and thoughtful interviews, the journal demonstrates how the process of design can be used to solve business problems, foster innovation, build meaningful customer relationships and differentiate products from competitors.”

AIGA has also created a mailing list for readers to join that will maintain an informal, open discussion on topics at the intersection of design and business. The mailing list will focus on one topic per week.

All of the articles are good but here are some of my favorites:
Shared Vision
“Can package design for a commodity significantly increase market share? Haskins shows how one client saw green after increasing market share from less than 1 percent to 31 percent without any consumer advertising.”
The State of our Contracts
“Are designers taking the business side of design seriously enough? Stone takes a serious look at 60 designers to address how they feel about agreements and contracts with clients.”
Early and Often: How to Avoid the Design Revision Death Spiral
“This paper discusses the strategies and methods Cooper have adopted to get maximum benefit from clients’ feedback and expertise while maintaining creative momentum and achieving deadlines.”
Intellectual Property: What does “Work for Hire” mean for designers?
“AIGA’s legal counsel answers your questions on intellectual property.”
(Form + Content + Context) / Time = Experience Design
“Experience design” is a discipline created by the reality of communication today, when no point of contact has a simple beginning and end and all points of contact must have meaning embedded in them.”
